The concept of tithing is first mentioned in the Bible in Genesis 14. In this passage, Abram (not yet Abraham) worships God after achieving victory in a battle involving several kings. A priest named Melchizedek, impressed by Abram's skill and character, approaches him. Abram, recognizing God’s presence in Melchizedek and understanding that he represented God, chose to honor him with tithes as an act of worship to God.
The second mention of tithing occurs in Genesis 28, where Jacob, after a profound encounter with God, vows to honor God by dedicating a portion of his blessings as tithes.
From these foundational events, we learn that giving tithes and offerings is a meaningful way to worship and honor God. Although we cannot see Him directly, we give to His representatives, who are entrusted with the responsibility before God to steward these gifts wisely.
At Vida Plena Church, we believe offerings are a direct expression of our worship to God. We joyfully and gratefully give back to Him from the blessings He has poured into our lives, demonstrating our devotion and trust in His provision.
